Green Tara Mandala

Invoking Goddess of Loving – Kindness

Green Tara  Mandala  depicts the female Bodhisattva, symbolising compassion, affection and protection. At its heart lies Green Tara Syllable Mantra, radiating serene empathy that reaches all sentient beings. The Mantra of Green Tara is Om Tare Tu Tare Ture Swaha and this mantra calls upon Green Tara, the swift savior and compassionate mother who protects from fear and obstacles, and brings healing, peace, and swift aid.

By creating the Green Tara Mandala, the artist allows oneself and all others to become filled with affection, loving- kindness and compassion. The artist lays the sacred geometry to place the central deity with its three dimensional palace, which is then surrounded by rings of lotus, vajra and flames. The diagram allows the artist or the practitioner the opportunity to travel from the samsaric world to the celestial space of the deity, to become one with the deity of the Mandala and cultivate its attributes.

This mandala serves as both a meditative gateway and a visual invocation of the deep, healing embrace of compassion that Green Tara offers the world.

Tara translates to 'a star'; she is a beacon of light in the darkness positioned above the human world, watching over us all. Tara is the ultimate mother. She is our protector-resolved to being born again and again until we are all liberated. It is due to the presence of these attributes that She will exist in an earthly form until we are all enlightened, for without creation, salvation, and protection, we are doomed to darkness. The Tara is shown gazing forward, Her right hand performs the mudra of generosity, while Her right foot is stepping out towards the human realm ready to step out into a worldly existence, ready to intervene as our protector, ready to help as our savior. Through her gaze, mudra, and foot position, she is communicating to the viewer that she is here to help us along our journey. She wears intricately patterned pants and a shawl around her shoulders. Her left hand, which holds the stem of a white lotus, is positioned over her heart in a mudra of compassion.
